About Route 78

Please do not read this book as great literary work. Please do not read this book as great work of fiction. Please do not read this book as gig guide on Parenting, nor an Inspiring telling on life challenges.

It is a simple, a rather plain narrative of a simple family, with simple middle-class values, simple joys, and simple everyday challenges. It would delight me no end if you can find an association, with your own story, somewhere inside these pages.

This book might nudge you to thank your parents more often, to spend that extra weekend with them, go on that holiday more often. I pray this book works to remind you, that Time is relentless. It does not turn back for anyone and today is as good a day as any to do the right thing.

Why I am I writing then, you ask? Are these feelings not too personal to share? To what purpose will these words serve you, my reader?

I have sat and argued a lot with my own arguments. They have argued back, telling me that I will not be able to do anything significant with these pages. But truth be told, I was taught very early in life by this man, to do exactly what I feel, to listen to my heart.

Gaurab Dasgupta

was born on 22nd July 1978. He grew up in the very turbulent era of the early 80’s in New Delhi, India. A student par excellence from Mount St. Mary's this quiet child learned to embrace his art, music, and sports as he grew up.

Gaurab Is by no means your average born to the inkpot writer who grew up with a passion for the words. The urge to write hit this young author rather late following the cathartic departure of his guru, friend and mentor, his Father.

At 44, and on his first book, for Gaurab, Life had found its own bizarre way of teaching him that it’s “Better late than never”.

When he is not reading, he is probably sketching, listening to music, or working out on the multi-gym placed next to his bed.

A man who loves challenges and discovering new passions, he believes age should not stand in the way of exploring new interests. Read More

In April 2021, while the global travel lockdowns were still in effect, his father (Bapi) passed away in India. Being the only child, he simply could not accept the notion that he could not be around to bid his Bapi a final adieu.

An unfulfilled void took hold of his heart, followed by and spurring on a growing need to relive those precious moments, to try and recapture the emotional journey with the man who molded his very being, so effortlessly.

This book is that journey in words, thoughts and moments that may never come back, but perhaps their simplicity, worth and wisdom will find a wounded heart, looking to heal.
